Personal development through a morning routine

A key factor in personal growth that can help a person every day is having a morning routine. In his youtube talk “the power of a morning routine”, brain coach IJim Kwik spoke on how important it is to have a morning routine and how powerful social media depression can be.

Kwik explains that the most important times of the day are the first few hours of the day and the last few hours of the day. This is because these are the times of the day when most people have the most freedom. They are not being told what to do by anyone because they are by themselves at home. They are in control of their actions after they wake up and before they fall asleep.

Kwik outlines several key components of an effective morning routine. He advocates for beginning the day with hydration, noting that the body becomes dehydrated overnight. Drinking water upon waking helps to rehydrate and kickstart metabolism. Additionally, he recommends engaging in physical activity to increase blood flow to the brain, thereby boosting cognitive function. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, are also highlighted as essential for reducing stress and enhancing focus.

Another critical aspect Kwik discusses is the importance of limiting digital distractions in the morning, also called social media depression. He cautions against immediately reaching for smartphones or other devices upon waking, as this can lead to reactive thinking and divert attention from personal priorities. Instead, he suggests dedicating time to goal setting and visualization, which can align one’s mindset with desired outcomes and foster a proactive approach to the day.

Kwik’s insights underscore the profound effect that a deliberate morning routine can have on an individual’s life. By incorporating these practices, people can cultivate habits that not only enhance their daily performance but also contribute to long-term personal growth and success.
