Being a teenager, you’d think that people who changed themselves or succeeded did it overnight. We believed in big leaps, not small steps. But as you get older, you’ll learn that growth is a journey that happens day by day.
Real growth doesn’t happen fast or overnight. It doesn’t happen on the first try or even the second or third. It happens when we keep trying.
For example, if you decided to learn the guitar. At first, it would feel impossible. Because your fingers will start to hurt. It would be frustrating at first. But after weeks of a bit of a practice each day, something will change.
That's where habits come in. If you waited only for motivation to show up, you would never learn anything. I
Soon you'll realize that you play better and feel proud. And you’ll realize that it didn’t happen overnight, but it took you steps by steps to get where you are now.
Change Starts Within
It sounds so simple at first, but change really does begin when we actually try in the choices we make each day. If you try to wait for the perfect moment or when conditions are just right, or when you feel completely ready. But that perfect moment never came. Then you’ll realize that the right time to start is whenever you make a decision to try.
If you decided to control your attitude and actions, even if you couldn’t control everything around you. For example, you couldn’t control the job market, but you could control how you learned and grew during that time. When a new challenge came, you told yourself, “What can I do today to make things better?”
Letting go of what you can’t control feels like freeing up space in your mind. Instead of worrying about things far away, you focused on small steps close.
Each Small Step Matters
Now you’ll see growth as a puzzle, one piece at a time. Every day has a few pieces. Every effort you make, even the tiny ones, adds up to a bigger picture over time.
Whenever you feel stuck, remind yourself of a favorite lesson. Progress is possible, even from tough places. We may stumble, but each step forward no matter how small the progress is. It's okay to feel fear or doubt along the way. What counts is that we try again. We keep choosing to grow, day by day, and step by step.
Each morning you wake up with a choice to continue on the same path, or take a new step toward change. And I know you can choose that too, because the journey of growth is for anyone willing to take the first small step.
