To be honest, phones have already become a big part of our lives now. We use them to talk to friends or family, check social media, watch videos, and even do assignments. However, they can be useful, but they can also be a huge problem. One minute you're checking a message, and the next thing you know, you’ve been scrolling through TikTok for 30 minutes. So, how can we stay focused when our phones are always right there?
The first step is to understand the problem. Phones are made to grab our attention. For example, notifications pop up all the time, and apps are designed to keep us interested. So, you can try to set “Do Not Disturb” to your phone. This could be during study time, meals, or just before bed. If it still can’t take you away from your phone, set a limit time to your spend on APPs that are hard to stop using. For instance, you can set a daily limit for one hour on TikTok. After one hour, your phone will tell you that you should stop as the available time for the APP has run out for the day.
Also, try the “out of sight, out of mind” trick. For example, try putting your phone in a drawer, your bag, or even in another room to stop yourself from using it. In addition, making a study plan can also help you stay away from your phone. If you know exactly what you need to get done, it’s easier to stay focused. So, write a time schedule, break tasks into small pieces and take short breaks in between. During breaks, you can check your phone, but only after finishing a goal. That way, your phone becomes a reward, not a distraction.
In a world where our phones are always with us, staying focused can be hard, but it’s not impossible. With small changes and good habits, you can take back control and make your time count.
