When people have a hard time with mental health, it is usually best to be there and support them through this hard time. By simply being there for them, they will feel loved and safe knowing someone cares and wants the best for them. You have to be very fragile with this person however, because they are going through a lot. Here are some tips on how to help someone who is struggling with their mental health.
Let them say what what they want
Let them have control over what they want to share. Don't push them to tell you more than they are comfortable with. If they intentionally left out a piece of information, that means they don’t want to talk about that part. If you push them to say more and they feel uncomfortable with it, they might not trust you anymore and have no one else to talk to, damaging their mental health more.
Ask If They Want You To Find A Solution
Sometimes people might want to just talk about what they are going through so they get some weight off their shoulders. They might not need a solution to their problems. Don’t try to fix their problems and tell them what they should and shouldn't do. Before jumping to conclusions, ask if they want you to help or just want to talk.
Encourage then to get professional help
Even though they are sharing this information with you, you won’t be able to help them as much as trained professionals. Naturally, you would know less than someone who has studied to help people. To help the person more, encourage them to get professional help so that they can feel better sooner.
