Depression is one of the majour and most commonly diagnosed mental health conditions, affecting about 280 million people in the world. Depression is different for everyone, it could be biological, psychological or even social such as anxiety. Whatever the case, there are many ways to healthily cope with depression. Although it may seem like a rough journey and you may think it’s difficult, it’s not impossible. Taking the first step is always the hardest, and staying consistent is even harder, but in the end, you will feel more confident, fulfilled, and energized.
One of the main ways one can cope with depression is to speak to a therapist or kids help line. The kids help line is online 24/7 and you can even text them if you’re not comfortable with talking to them through the phone. If you’re uncomfortable with a therapist or texting kids help line, reach out to those you care about the most and value you. Doing things on your own can be difficult to maintain that positive mindset so getting support from your loved ones is essential for overcoming depression. Remember, reaching out is not a sign of weakness and remember that you’re not a burden to others, the people you surround yourself with, want to help you and turley care for you.
Although it’s nice to receive support, it’s even better to provide support to others for yourself, as doing so will provide you with an even bigger mood boost. Things like reaching out to friends and family to see if they’re okay, taking care of yourself, or volunteering can benefit you in the long run.
Another thing to do is things that make you feel good. Overcoming depression is difficult however taking the time to relax and to the things you enjoy can benefit your mood and provide a healthy living lifestyle. Something like picking up a sport, hanging out with your friends, journaling or joining a club that you're passionate about can help you uplift yourself through a creative perspective.
Overall, overcoming depression can be difficult but with some of these healthy coping mechanisms, you’re able to fulfill your ability to healthily cope with depression.
